My very first coach called herself a visibility coach.
Now that I have been coaching for over 5 years, I recognize the pattern: a fear of being seen as a XYZ (failure/hack/jerk/phony) is a big obstacle to a lot of my clients.
When I meet these brilliant people, the problem is not if they are good at what they do. The issue, when they:
1. Change careers.
2. Advertise their services.
3. Try something new.
4. Share their knowledge.
5. Lead.
is that they MIGHT be seen as imperfect. Or less than Sally Sue. Or that they might charge differently than Tom or Harry. (I know. This is a Dick free zone.)
Guess what? I am/was in the same boat.
Now that I am about to publish a memoir about about a very private cancer journey that I refused to talk about while it was happening (and for a few years after), it is popping up again.
So, I get it, and, I have a lot of experience overcoming visibility and the possible (and feared) outcomes as a courage practice.
I teach this.
I model this.
I coach this.
Do we ever totally recover from it?
Doubtful if you live a life that moves forward. lol I mean, we do keep on learning and growing and trying new things, at least I do, so my courage practices must grow with me!
I am working with folks 1:1 on this, and have changed my business model of to one you might see in a therapist office to make it more flexible and accessible for folks.
