Hello loves,
I am writing this to you in April, the month where I had promised to finish draft two of the medical memoir and deliver it to my editor at the university press.
It’s also the month where I work with clients and bring new clients in (hopefully), so I hired some business support to help me refocus and clarify my marketing/messaging.
It’s also a month where I visited my family, a day’s drive away.
It’s a month where my besties are moving to NC.
It’s a month where my love has a birthday.
It’s a month where I inherited a chicken.
It’s a month that I got in to a PhD program and had to move money around to go to Switzerland for the first session.
There’s more:
I cooked more than I ate out.
I went to the gym more than I didn’t.
I am supporting the comedy troupe back stage for their April show.
I am a friend and a mentor in my community.
I worked on my yard.
I went to therapy 2x.
This seems like a lot, and yes, it is. But for me, with my neurospicyness, only the parts where I encountered grief and growth felt hard. The rest was just a normal day.
Because I know something about me: I am a sprinter.
For folks who get things done, who move things forward in life, I can put them in two categories:
Sprinters
Marathoners
Both types get there, but sprinters have a natural ability to:
Go fast.
Make decisions.
Get a lot done in a short amount of time.
Work well with deadlines.
Hate the proofreading part.
Follow their gut instinct.
Love caffiene.
Don’t like interruptions when they are focused.
Have trouble doing tasks that require waiting.
Marathoners, God bless them, have a different pacing.
They:
Have a long decision making process.
Measure / weigh pros and cons.
Enjoy a spreadsheet.
Hold multiple points of view.
Enjoy routine.
Commit to a bigger picture.
Are quite loyal.
Can be quite patient.
What else? Did I miss anything?
There’s no pros and cons to having sprint or marathon tendencies. As a Professional Certified Coach, I come from a client focused perspective, and work with folks to understand and optimize how they work best.
I love to humanize all of the ways people are wired! For me, it’s not important the WHY we are this way, but in the HOW can I work WITH this tendency to accomplish my dreams and goals?
How can I understand and support myself even better? THAT is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
So, which camp are you in?Want to work together?
